Passed under the power of several families in the late Middle Ages-early Renaissance, Rionero initially served as a feudal center, as did other nearby villages. The Carafa, the family that has most influenced the development of the area since the inhabited area, have left indelible marks, still visible today through the castle - left in ruins by the current owners - and the adjoining church, dating back to the 17th century, which also pays, due to more or less intense seismic wars and movements, in truly precarious conditions.
