Piazza Unità d'Italia

It is the main square of the Municipality of Montecassiano, in the province of Macerata. Montecassiano has been defined as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Indeed, seeing how the village is preserved, one can only agree. As mentioned, one of the main attractions of the village is Piazza Unità d'Italia, where the main buildings of the country are located, among others. In fact, in Piazza Unità d'Italia there are the Palazzo dei Priori, the Palazzo Campagnucci and the complex of the former Convent of the Augustinians, with the church of SS. Marco, Agostino and Madonna del Consiglio. The Palazzo dei Priori and the Palazzo dei Campagnucci are practically a single element, united by a large connecting arch. The existence of these buildings is present in documents dating back to 1400 but it seems that their origin is prior to that period. What we see today is also and above all the result of the intervention of Guido Cirilli. A special place that fits perfectly into the fabric of the village. The square is very easy to reach as the town is very small. Personally I entered through the Porta San Giovanni, and I made the staircase of Via Roma which leads directly to the square. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that there is practically a parking lot in the center of the square. A pity that such a place is not better preserved. I hope the review was helpful.
