The Rometta Fountain is the most original fountain in the Villa d'Este park. Its name can be translated as "little Rome", and indeed, the most famous symbols of the Eternal City are involved in its design. The fountain is compositionally located on two levels. On the top, among the green lawn, with her back to the balustrade of the semicircular terrace, sits the Goddess of Victory. To the left of it is the most recognizable monument in Rome - a she-wolf, feeding babies Romulus and Remus. Rare water jets are directed downwards from the edge of the upper tier. There is another symbolic element in the center of the lower pool - a boat with an obelisk. This is an allegorical depiction of the island of Tiberino, which really resembles a boat in shape. Unfortunately, many of the sculptural elements of the Rometta fountain were destroyed in the 19th century, so now it is impossible to appreciate the grandeur of the original project invented by Pirro Ligorio and embodied by the master Curzio Maccarone between 1567 and 1570. This, however, does not at all interfere with admiring the general concept of the fountain complex, executed with great imagination.

Small fountain at the end of the route provided by the map. The various terraces that rise one above the other allow you to take very beautiful photos with the landscape behind the fountain.

The Rometta fountain imitates the island of Tiberin, the Capitoline Wolf and other symbols of the Eternal City. Project Pirro Ligorio, master Curzio Maccarone. 1567-1570
