Buy a ticket online to go to the islands from Milazzo. Boats are comfortable and smooth. I heard that it can be quite shaky when the sea is rough.

From here you can easily take ferrys/ boats to reach the wonderful Eolian Islands. Also seasonal direct buses (Giunta buses) from/to Catania airport.

Adriatic Princess, through Viator, the best ship & run by professionals. Maybe only 20% occupancy so very safe, & anyone not wearing a mask was told to put one on, including repeat offenders. Stromboli was romboli & Panarea was a great visit, really amazing day.
