The Diocesan Museum of Parma is located in the Bishop’s Palace, in Piazza Duomo. It occupies part of the underground level of the Palace and has its entrance in Vicolo del Vescovado. The museum exhibition involves a chronological itinerary based on the history of the spread of Christianity in the town, starting with Roman times and continuing with the early medieval and medieval sections. The artifacts on display are accompanied by panels that explain their meaning within the context of origin, with particular focus on the construction of the Bishop’s Palace, Cathedral, and Baptistery. Along the itinerary, visitors can see a stretch of the late antique Roman walls dating to the end of the 3rd century AD. The exhibits include early Christian artifacts, coins, Roman stuccoes, and Early Medieval ceramics. Not so big and overcrowded.

Everything is only in Italian. Sad to see no English. Lots of items and mosaics. Archaeological museum.

A small museum adjacent to the Piazza. A small display of Roman antiquities discovered nearby, and some interesting sculptures, plus the beautiful mediaeval golden angel from the rooftop. None of this necessarily of interest to a casual visitor, but certainly of interest to those interested in archaeology and art history, as a supplement to their visit to the Duomo.

Not bad. I generally don't like these museums. We bought the ticket together. I like these works better in their place of origin although it is clear that it cannot always be.

Definitely small for a city like Parma but with statues of great interest, it deserves a visit especially as it is included in the entrance ticket to the Baptistery.
