A great Hike, even has security...here's a short history lesson on Good Hope: Latitude. 17.9833°, Longitude. -76.7167° Was the head quaters of a large plantation in St. Andrew. It is located in Dallas Castle. The Plantation used to specialise in Sugar and rum. The Blue Mountain peak can be seen at North Eats from the Good Hope Mountain peak. Dallas Castle: Named for the Estate formally owned by Dr. Robert Charles Dallas, Father of Alexander Dallas who was born in Kingston in 1759 and ultimately became U.S. Secretary of the Treasurury under President James Madison (1814- 1816).The Dallas Family are popular in the U.S. State of Alabama. Dr. Robert Dallas came to Jamaica from Scotland around 1730. His first wife was Mary Frances Main, daughter of Samuel Themer Main, a merchant of Kingston. Dallas Castle in the region of Saint Andrew is a place located in Jamaica - some 6 mi (or 9 km) East of Kingston, the country's capital. Dr. Dallas bought the Boar Castle estate on the Cane River, Jamaica in 1758, changing its name to Dallas Castle. He left the island in 1764, having mortgaged the estate and put it in a trust. STUFF TO KNOW The Cane River rises at twin sources in the vicinity of Derby Peak in eastern Saint Andrew Parish, Jamaica from where it flows south to the Caribbean Sea. When the British took Jamaica from Spain, troops were stationed all throughout the John Crow mountains as Fear that Dallas Castle would be used a military route for re-conquest by the Spaniards...Hnece the famous Governors Bench in Flamstead supposedly built and named after Sir Henry Arthur UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE A World Heritage Site is a landmark or area which is selected by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as having cultural, historical, scientific or other form of significance, and is legally protected by international treaties. The highest point in the range is a little over 3,750 feet (1,140 m). The name John Crow first recorded in the 1820s and comes from the Jamaican name for the turkey vulture. It has been suggested that previous to this, the range was known as the "Carrion Crow Ridge", after an earlier name for the vulture. In 1885 Inspector Herbert T. Thomas of the local constabulary began an attempt to reach the highest peak of the range, and in 1890 was successful, publishing an account in his book 'Untrodden Jamaica'. At the Summit of Good Hope stands a Comerative Plapue of this journey. He requested the then governor Sir Henry Blake to consent that they be renamed the Blake Mountains, but admits in his book the change met with opposition. The new name did not stick and they remain the John Crow Mountains. Things to seee? Liguanea (/ˈlɪɡəniː/ LIG-ənee) is an area of the island of Jamaica in the West Indies.
