Rude, expensive and there are other outings. I came to stay with my son at the hotel cycle in Onomichi to ride the islands. We stopped at the Giant store at around 1pm on Tuesday and asked to rent bikes for Wednesday. The young fellow took our sizes and details but did not want to let us pay. When we arrived at the agreed time, 9.30am on Wednesday, there was chaos. Many people and the bikes were not ready. We waited around 45 mins. Eventually, an older woman was given the task to setup the bikes. They charge rental for a ride kit (seriously ... 500 yen so bring your own). And don't expect an Allen key to readjust your saddle. Bring a set along too. Rude, uninterested, slow. There are many options in Onomichi. I'm sure they'd be better. The bikes were good btw. Aluminum giants with 105 running gear . Not a giant of a store in my view.

Staff here is very rude, and unhelpful. I know I don't speak the best Japanese, but the lady who I handled the bike rental through seemed to hate me personally.

I arrived at the Giant Store, Onomichi without any advance, online bike reservation - to which I was greeted/treated with indifference bordering on downright rudeness by the female staff member - perhaps the manager? Although it was early July, midweek, rainy season with few customers the staff member abruptly snapped at me that there were no bikes left (without even checking) and I was brushed off and told to go find the public bike rental up the road. Note: There WERE bikes left - it's just I hadn't followed the correct advance online booking procedure. I returned later and enquired again and after staff/manager discussion I was begrudgingly given an electric bike for ¥20,000+/24hrs. (Yes - that is not a typo!) Note: You MUST make advanced bookings for any bikes online! The bike I was given was a shiny newish Giant electric bike, reliable with no problems. Be aware when riding the entire Shimanami Kaido as I did that electric bikes can only be returned back to the Onomichi Giant store.

Very friendly and helpful staff, BUT this is not a bike repair shop. They have very little in the way of spare parts or tools. This is mostly a bike souvenir shop with expensive gear.
