Sōjiji Temple

A beautiful temple just across from Tanisha shrine. It has a stunning huge red lantern and a traditional street leading to it. They have goshuin available too. It is a small détour if you are already in the area or by Tanashi station. There is a beautiful cherry tree.

When I happened to visit early in the morning, I was fortunate enough to get a glimpse of the taiko and sutra sessions of the monks. Playing wonderful melodies and harmonies, it seemed that my heart was being purified.

It is a temple in Tanashi City, which was originally Beptoji Temple of the Captain Gongen Shrine (current Tanashi Shrine). At the time, it was called Sokoji Temple by the name of Saikoji Temple due to the separation of Shinto and Buddhist temples in the Meiji period. The monetary amount of the Lieutenant Gongen is stored in this temple. By the way, it has the same name as Sojiji Temple, which is the head temple of the Soto sect in Tsurumi, Kanagawa Prefecture, but it has a different sect (Shingon sect.
