The castle from outside, is really beautiful ! Unfortunately, we arrived too late to visit it. Be careful, the castle close at 5pm. But the view of outside was gorgeous. And even more beautiful at night, with all the lights on the castle.

One of the castles that would actually allow you to waltz outdoors at the top and take in the fantastic views above the city.

Although the castle buildings are all reconstructions - the originals were all destroyed by order of the Meiji government at the end of the 19th century - the walls and moat are apparently mostly unchanged. The moat is connected to the sea and the level goes up and an elderly gentleman explained to me that the water level goes up and down with the tides. There were also fugu blowfish and other sea water fish in the moat. I haven’t been inside the reconstructed keep which dates from the 1980s, but always try to walk or jog around the grounds whenever I find myself in Imabari.

Very interesting, only spent an hour but I'm sure there's some more interesting history there. Worth a quick detour if you're in the area.

The castle is grand from all angles. Great place to visit by day and by night, if you love night photography. If your accommodation is near the Castle, come here to jog in the evening, you will definitely love the sight of its grandness.
