Not only was the sushi delicious (super fresh fish and the rice was so sweet) the other patrons are so friendly they mailed people they knew nearby who speak English and made them come immediately to be translators! Also one gentleman seated at the counter spoke some English and was shyly translating for us initially and insisted on shaking hands before we left. You also know the food is amazing when the farmer who supplies the rice dines there, and the chef himself is an avid fisherman (couldn’t quite catch if he catches the fish himself but they pointed to a painting behind the counter of a fish he’d caught before). All in all, an amazingly local experience in every sense of the word (one of the locals advised its a ‘regulars only’ joint so as soon as we walked in they knew which hotel we were from) - plus incredibly affordable prices. Absolutely going back before we leave Sado Island!

The sushi here was amazing, but what made the experience perfect was the super sweet owners of the place, and the kind, friendly, and helpful regular patrons of the place. The chef and his wife were so kind and caring, despite not speaking any English (and us barely able to speak Japanese). They kept the place open for us, gave us the most delicious sashimi on the house, and made us feel so welcome. All the other regular patrons we met at the restaurant were really friendly and went out of their way to help us translate everything we wanted to order. If you're in Sado Island, please come here for sushi.

Amazing sushi!! Was reccommend by our hotel to eat here. If you can speak a bit of japanese- the owner is very nice too!!

There were no many restaurants around this Kanai. When we went there, it was bit late. The chef and the lady ( may be chef's wife) warmly welcome us. I ordered sushi. I ate sea snail sushi first time. It is not very tasty but better to try at least once. My wife is pregnant. Therefore, the chef kindly prepare a baked fish for us. They gave a miso soup with shrimp heads. It is also really great. They don't give a formal bill, just told us the price (2200Yen). However, the chef said 2000 Yen is enough and no need 200 Yen. The reason was that we ( me and my wife) were a lovely couple. They are so kind. Even though they cannot speak English, they tried their best to communicate with us with the help of other customers. It is a really warm and nice place.
