As of September 2020, the ropeway has not been rebuilt. According to locals, reconstruction is difficult. Although it is difficult to rebuild, if you wish to rebuild it, you cannot remove the ropeway from the map. When the volcanic plume and toxic gas concentration are low, you can drive to the vicinity of Kakounishi Station. There is a charge for boarding. It is about a 5-minute walk from the car to the crater observatory. Far below the crater, you can see the water vapor rising like a noise. It doesn't make a sound. There are several reinforced concrete evacuation sites near the crater observatory.

2012.05 Take the Aso Mountain Cable Car and go to the Huokou West Station. You can take a photo of the Zhongyue Crater. Then there are trails to walk down and walk back to Aso West Station. (2019 currently in the middle of the mountain)
