Tamotsu Kurata (10/30/2017)
A temple of the Jodo sect. During the Edo period, Enman-ji and Kokon-ji were used as lodgings for the Korean envoy. On the precincts is the tomb of Geisbert Henmiy, the late Dutch trading director in the late Edo period. He died during his stay at the headquarters in Kakegawa City due to a worsening illness in Edo Sanfu. There is no information about this person on the information board or the website of the city, so leave the information I know as a memo. Born in Cape Hope, Africa. Hiromasa 4 (1792) Appointed Dejima Trading Director. The same year in 6 and 10 years Edo Sanfu. After having an audience with the 11th Shogun Tokugawa Ienari of the second Imperial Household, he died in Kakegawa. There was a donation from the Dutch side to maintain the grave, and it seems that successive trading directors visited the grave during Edo Sanfu. As a personal matter, when I visited the Nagasaki History Museum, the pictures here were posted, and I remembered the fact that I was exposed to local information far away in Nagasaki. If you would like to investigate Hengmi, please refer to the following documents. (Mitsuo Shoji "Waran Trading Director Haasbelt: Hengmi" ("Rural Studies Material Study Group Research Report No. 118") Jiro Numata "Natural Temple Wanran Kobiko Henmi Related Historical Materials") (History Geography, Vol. 91, 3 issue)
