It's the COVID-19 times so the front gate staff is a bit on edge. However, they're really friendly and take a deposit, e.g., credit card or insurance card. After a temperature measurement, hand sanitation, and you locked away your phone, you may head up to the desks. While I had an appointment, there is no need to draw a number and you are called right on time. The first staff, which overlooked my documents is quite rude. Although she speaks German language, she sounds like a left-over from Gestapo. Extremely unpleasant experience. Once this is over, you have to wait for another 25min and you will be called into room #3, where a surprisingly friendly staff will great you and finalize your documents and process your payments. Bottom line, you have to go there though I don't want to do it for pleasure.

Awesome and smooth experience, the lady at the counter was really helpful and courteous. I had five applications for work visa. The whole process was smooth and easy

I was worried to visit the embassy after reading some bad reviews here. Anyway I am coming from Akita which is far away from Tokyo. As many people said, the security staffs are so nice. I have prepared all the required documents at my best. Lady at the counter, at that time, was nice to me. I have prepared everything well but she said that my photo and insurance didn't meet the requirement. I was panic, but she gave me a map and told me to go to photo studio nearby. About my insurance, she told me to buy another one that explicitly says "repatriation" and send her by email asap. Well, another advise from me is to print your bank book at the appointment day (I printed mine 3 days before appointment and it is not accepted) and reserve morning appointment (in case you need to take another photo and etc). There is JP Post nearby, so don't worry if you forgot to print the bankbook or buying the envelope. Well, as long as you are really careful with the requirements, it should be fine. Thanks for reading.

I have travelled to EU member states many times, therefore, made application to various embassy depending on my primary destination. I have the best experience with the German embassy. They are very efficient and fast enough in processing visa if your documents are perfectly placed, which I always do. The list of required documents and every other details is properly given in the website. Therefore, there is no question of confusion. Many people complained about it which is rather surprising to me. The online interface for the application procedure is very nice.
