They refused to take my reservation on the grounds that I was a foreigner... Well then, I will go and spend my money elsewhere, thank you.

Great! I came here on a bike tour across Japan. Some information for other cycle tourists: Campsite is open April-November (you would not be able to stealth camp here in the off-season, it is private property). 500jpy for tent plus 210/person. I came in early April with no reservation, no problem. But I imagine in the busier season, you need to call ahead. There are hot showers and a nice cooking area! Walking distance to onsen and vine bridge, etc. Stock up on groceries in whatever bigger city you are coming from, not much in the valley

Very nice place for camping and barbeque

Cozy and nice camping space. We were the only one camping in this site; others were staying in the cottages as it was in October and was getting chilly. There was a friendly uncle and he was very helpful. He got us lights and offered whole kitchen area when we were about to have our dinner in dark (we forgot to bring the torch and was using our cellphone).

Google Maps has this place located on the wrong side of the river which, as I was cycling, put me in a bad mood when I arrived. I wanted to take a tent site but the manager wouldn't let me due to forecast rain so I took a cabin instead. The toilet and shower facilities were good as were the clothes/kitchenware washing facilities for campers. The river didn't look all that clean, which was a disappointment as I had hoped to go swimming in it. But my main gripe was the lack of a futon. There were tatami mats and a blanket, which made for a pretty hard surface for sleeping. No pillow was provided either. Fairly expensive at 5500 yen, for what was provided.
