This place has REALLY good tempura - I've never had such juicy shrimp tempura before! You know its good when the tempura is served with salt instead of sauce too :) The kamameshi is great and I loved that the store had instructions for how to properly enjoy the meal at each table! It is a great price for what you get, but be aware that if you are a foreigner that is used to salty foods, you might think the food is too bland. Kansai food is typically less salty to begin with and this meal is meant to bring out the natural flavors of the ingredients so the flavors are subtle and you need to drink the soup/eat the pickles with the meal to refresh your palate every so often. Knowing that, though this was a spectacular meal for the price!

A very popular local restaurant in Nara but I can tell why it’s set apart from others. The portion of a serving looks small at first, but it’s actually more than enough once you dig in. Totally worth the queue.

Visited in December and a great restaurant with special home made rice pot with fresh ingredients and great taste. Though waited for long (45+ min), the food is worth for waiting outside in the cold. Making it extra tasty and perfect for the season.

Coming also from a rice culture, I will have yo say this rice set is unimpressive. People say the wait is usually two hours. I would have been way more disappointed if I had waited for even 15 mins. I got seated right away today and the restaurant wasnt even full. The rice, which this restaurant is famous far, was overrated. I didn't find it special. Service was below average as i had to ask three times to get some water. They were very fast when I ordered sake, however, which came with a price tag. Overall, I won't recommend it. Save your time and go to any other restaurant!

Nothing special about the food and the experience. The price does not even justify how plain the food tastes. There’s a line up outside the door tho. So if youre reading this while waiting in queue, go somewhere else. 2 stars for good service.
