Chōfu airport is a metropolitan airport within greater Tokyo. It has limited traffic towards the islands and has convenient facilities, according to its size. The real gem for those interested in history is that it was the base for the former IJAAF 244th Sentai, unit dedicated to defend Tokyo from incoming B-29 raids during WWII. There are some hardened shelters just outside and to the North-East of the runway and also elsewhere, near Shiraitodai Station. This airport and facilities was located South of the former Nakajima factory, famous for her aircraft and aero engines.

Chofu Airport (調布飛行場 Chōfu Hikōjō)(ICAO: RJTF) is an airport located 1.2 NM(2.2 km; 1.4 mi) northwest[2] of Chōfu, Tokyo, Japan, west of central Tokyo. It is administered by the Bureau of Port and Harbor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The airport's main commercial activity is New Central Airservice commuter flights to the Izu Islands south of Tokyo.
