Climb up 258 steps for a good view of the city, sunset and also the 12m tall wooden statue of goddess of mercy. Also marvel at the fact that this temple has been in business since the year 770! This year, the temple will put some Buddhist image(s) on display that can be seen only once in 50 years! The climb is strenuous and I do not recommend it in summers. I was sweating at the top in February weather.

Beautiful temple, good for exercise because you need to get on about 200 steps of stairs to reach the temple. Right at the foot of a mountain. Went here because of Hyde's memories and it become one of my favourite temple in Japan. The rain was too heavy so I can't climb up to the top, will be back someday.

Beautiful and peaceful temple on top of a steep hill. Houses the tallest (12m) wood statue of the Goddess of Mercy in Japan

A very beautiful place with a great importance in Wakayama Prefecture's history. One of the most popular. Also, you can try your hands on shoudou (Japanese kanji writing) here. Very fun, very recommended if you're one for historical sight-seeing.

Beautiful and life affirming shrine. Especially lovely at dusk.
