Hot Springs of New Zealand (03/30/2019)
Good points: Excellent outdoor hot pools (one for women and the other mixed). Convenient location. Lots of shady trees. Well stocked camp store. Bad points: Very expensive, especially considering the basic facilities. Pools closed overnight. We arrived just before midday and got told we had to leave and return at 1pm to check-in (the camp was almost empty). The manager was quite rude about this and it wasn't a case of 'lost in translation'. He was a lot nicer after my friend mentioned I was writing a guidebook.

Good points: two large open air hot springs, trees to hang hammocks, trash bins are provided, firewood for sale, very organized and maintained. Bad points: there are a lot of rules, no English is spoken, motorcycle entry is not allowed (you have to park in the parking lot), the place is spacious but the camping for motorcyclists is restricted to a tiny section at the entry of the grounds, relatively expensive. There is a women's only and a co-ed hot spring. Men don't have their own bath, so not good for shy guys.

Camped here a night--the onsen is super nice, the campgrounds flat, and full of beautiful trees

The reception is not easy to understand, and it seems that you can put the bathing fee in the price box even if there is no manager. It is a large open-air bath. It is a beautiful hot water with a large amount of hot water. Because it is wide, you can choose the place of your favorite hot water temperature.
かっちんだま“かっちんだま” (06/06/2020)
It wasn't during the busy season and there weren't any campers around, so I was told to "hang here and here." It was a tight camp, with a couple of people squeezed into a small space. There was no one around me, so I wanted him to use the space one by one.
