Great and cheap place for a camp at Biwako lake!

Campsite was closed during the week, we arrived 6:00pm on a Sunday night, the lady was kind enough to let us stay, but thought it a bit cheeky of her to tell us we were not allowed to swim in the lake. It was cold and was not in the plan anyway. As it was the eve of the Super moon we were treated to a truly unforgettable evening and again in the morning to the most magnificent sunrise. Talking with an American who lives close by, we were told the campsite was a well kept secret. Our night was awesome.

Be sure not to confuse this campsite Aoyagi Hama with the one next door. The one star is for them because they don’t have a website anymore on purpose. There service is atrocious because for one they charge a higher price, you have to walk 600 meters to the only toilet that has all kinds of bugs biting you when you use it. The grounds are full of rocks and tree roots that puncture your tent. The only flat space is on ant infested sand. There wash area water run off drains into the campsite grounds and flows onto your tent. It is the worst campsite in all of Japan, and the old man and young lady lock you in with a chain gate that can’t be seen at night if you arrive (be careful very dangerous) and they are very very rude unlike most other campsite managers. Never stay at that place and be sure after you enter keep driving around to the Aoyagihama Camping ground, it’s cheaper and the grounds are soft and nice to camp on.

It was a best place to have fun in the summer. Glastar even don’t close on holidays. It’s good to book before you go there. We were the first foreigners to go to the Glastar. It is recently opened!!
