An udon specialty restaurant that highlights the commonly loved udon in new variations. My dish was delicious and food service was quick (during lunch). NOTE: as of late May 2020 there was little Covid-19 measures commonly found in most restaurants at this time. No social distancing of seats (tightly packed while busy), everyone sits across from other parties while eating with no temporary barriers, and menus not cleaned after every use but instead simply returned to the center divide for shared use. This did not affect the quality of food, rather made me feel uneasy to stay too long. I cannot comment on any future changes, only to the situation I found at this time.

The place is very clean and peaceful. We can speak Japanese but there was an English menu available. The food here was really delicious. Delicious udon noodles with perfect tempura shrimp. The broth had a lot of flavor and it all came together in a very balanced meal. This was heaven

Walked in on a whim; fantastic decision. Authentically prepared food and local sake. Quick service, no frills dining. Doesn’t matter when the food is that good. If I return to Nara, I will visit again!

We happened across this place after walking through from the Kofuku-ji temple complex - it's right opposite a branch of Macdonalds in the shopping arcade, so you can't miss it. The style of food is no frills, and the general ambience is a little like a canteen, but I'd heartily recommend choosing this as your place to eat in Nara: the staff (ALL the staff) who work there cheerily call out the usual "arigato gozaimasu!" to every customer as they leave, but there's an added feeling of care in this place - you almost feel like your favourite aunt is slipping you an extra rice ball with your meal, just to make sure you've eaten enough! I had udon noodles in a wakame/dashi broth with tempura plum and tempura plain mochi (rice cake), which was exactly the starch hit I needed, and my partner had chicken curry udon soup, which had just the right Japanese curry spice level.
