RanHotei is a 100 year old renovated Kyomachiya house located in the heart of an old shopping district in Kyoto near Nijo Castle. The Owner, Tea Master, and Martial Arts expert Randy Channell Soei has created an amazing cafe experience that no tourist should miss. Delicious cakes are always available as-well-as many more treats! I prefer to sit in the back where I can get a great view of the zen garden or the front seat and people watch! Perfect place if you are looking to relax and enjoy japans cafe culture. After a busy day of non-stop shrines and shopping my wife and I enjoyed cake, tea, and coffee! We tried the green tea cheesecake and Maple Kinako cake + green tea and coffee. Everything was fantastic. If you are looking for a real tea experience book a Japanese tea ceremony ahead of time and learn about Japanese culture! Randy does an amazing job of explaining everything!

Art deco meets Taisho Roman in this little cafe owned by Canadian Urasenke tea master Randy Channell, where you can enjoy a wide variety of teas, coffees and pastries. Try their koicha cake with the iced matcha smoothie for a full on green experience.

Great learning about the tea ceremony in English... And give the Matcha Tofu Cake a go... Sure to surprise!

Almost the center of Sanjo-dori shopping street. "Ran Hotei" is the first shop on this street of a long arcade. I didn't know that it was a famous restaurant, and I entered it without any prior knowledge, but it was a perfect fit for me. Personally, the conversation with the master and the clerk was lively in many ways, and I was able to have a wonderful and enjoyable time. It's a little different from the store's evaluation, but I'm grateful for the amazing encounter. e? What about the store itself? Of course, it has five stars!
