It is a transfer station for the JR Hohi Main Line and the Kumamoto Streetcar. It is close to the neighboring Suizenji station. It's a short walk up the stairs from the streetcar platform, but once you cross the road to the JR station building, there is an elevator. The JR platform is elevated. However, since it is a bar line station, it may be crowded especially during rush hours. Limited express trains also stop, but since the Kyushu Shinkansen opened, the limited express Ariake, which connects to the Hohi Main Line from the Hakata area, has been abolished, so the number of limited express trains currently stopping is small, such as the Trans-Kyushu Limited Express.
