The Uwa Park hotel is a nice hotel for the walking henro, being reasonably inexpensive, clean, well-run, offering a nice large bath, and a decent breakfast buffet. It also has free wi-fi (but I found it to be slow and less reliable than my data plan, unfortunately) Overall I had a good experience here, but two tiny annoyances prevent me from being able to give the Uwa Park four stars:
First, the markup on the vending machine beer is simply rapacious -- there's no other word for it that even comes close. I'm something of a connoisseur of overpriced vending machine beer, but the Uwa Park Hotel is truly in a league of its own. Where this pricing chutzpah comes from is puzzling, considering there's a convenience store just across the street. Hands down the most expensive vending machine beer I saw anywhere in Shikoku.
The second little annoyance is the pathetic price/performance ratio of the hotel's clothes dryer. Most places' dryers run for 30 minutes @ 100 yen, and do a good job. Uwa Park's run colder than they should for only ~20 minutes @ 100 yen. Chump change, granted, but differences like this get noticed when you're walking the henro trail and get exposed to dozens of places' differing laundry offerings in such a short space of time. No big deal, but a little money grubbing...
Rate was ~5000 yen w/o meals. (Budget ~500 yen for laundry)
First of all, the food was not delicious. I was expecting it because the food was evaluated, but there are no brown meat and fish other than sashimi plate and fruit plate, brown meat and fish other than salad, oden and colorful meals that I saw on the net, and only brown food deprives my appetite and enjoyment of eating. I have been broken.
Breakfast was also a poor meal with 3 to 4 side dishes, about 1 type of bread and rice, and even if you put rice and miso soup salad on a tray. In this case, it was better to serve it as a one-plate set meal. The juice machine in the drink bar is also sick and not stable because it is too sweet or has a light taste.
It's cheaper and tastier to eat at a nearby Butataro or Chinese restaurant, or I think you should buy it at a convenience store, drug store, or supermarket.
In the room, Tatami was burnt with cigarettes and had a strong cigarette smell, so I put up with the cold and opened the window to sleep.
Since it is a hotel for people with a car camp license, the image of a camp license was that it was a young person, but in reality only elderly men were staying at it.
I was convinced that the room was smoking.
There was wifi, but I couldn't use it even if I entered the password and connected it. It's just like it's not useless.
The meal was valued in the previous story and it's not worth the money to eat this meal.
Seiyo has good transportation and you can reach Uwajima in 30 minutes by freeway, and you can reach Ozu and downhill in 30 minutes, so you don't have to take the risk and stay at this hotel.
The only good points are that the water server was installed on the first floor and the futon was updated and relatively new.
Old-fashioned hotel.
It seems that the pilgrimage is often used.
The room also has a bathtub, but there is also a large public bath so I could relax.
Personally, it was good to have a water dispenser on the first floor!
I drank a lot of water and was able to replenish the water bottle before leaving for the pilgrimage, which was helpful.
It's not a new building, but the inside of the building has been cleaned up, and above all, it's recommended because you can stay without meals at a reasonable price!
I used it on the pilgrimage.
The equipment is old, but it is necessary and sufficient.
There is Seven-Eleven in the immediate vicinity and it is easy to procure food.
It is a laid-back atmosphere as a whole.
The bath and food were good.
