This was a treasure hiding in the residential area. It had such a wonderful antique-Japan ambiance. While there are only 10 things to choose from the food menu, we tried about half of them: phenomenal! The cook/owner is wonderful! The drink menu is substantial. we had a hard time because smoking is permitted inside, but that is to be expected at this type of restaurant. We had a wonderful evening and enjoyed an authentic Japanese experience. please note: you must speak Japanese to enjoy this place. The menu is only Japanese, and there are no pictures.

Great delicious food. Super fresh seafoods. Intimate dining experience. Prices are extremely reasonable. Cosy interiors, great ambience. The owner cooks runs the place by herself. She’s speaks only Japanese and the menu is solely in Japanese. She is super nice. Eat as the locals do!!

One of my favorite izakaya in Matsushima. It serves seasonal items including local seafood, and despite its location near the waterfront it's not well known to tourists and the food is at local rather than tourist prices. Plum wine starts at just a few hundred yen, for example. The atmosphere is cozy with dark wood walls and some antique objects. It usually is not crowded. Smoking is allowed so it can get smokey if the other customers decide to smoke.

There are many hotels in Matsushima which is the 3rd scenery of Japan, tourists finish dinner at the hotel, so many of the restaurants are closed in the day. But this shop begins around sunset and you can enjoy until the night. Cooking goods are less than chain stores etc., but COSPA is high so I can recommend it not only at the primary meeting but also at the secondary meeting. Also, it seems that the atmosphere that smells Showa is popular not only by Japanese but also by foreigners. Because I live in the prefecture, I will come once a year.
