Alagalla Mountain

Adventures and a little difficult hike up to the top. It’s a bout 2.5Km to the top. It’s best to start little early in the morning because the last bit of the hike is on open grounds and the sun could make the hike little difficult. In average you can reach the top within about 2 hours, while taking small breaks. The view from the top is amazing and the cold wind at the top is relaxing after reaching the top.

Running west of Kandy, the Alagalla Mountain Range is located deep in Sri Lanka’s heartland. At its northern end is Alagalla Mountain, a 3740 foot (1140m) peak that draws hikers eager to stand on its summit, the potato-shaped rock that gives it the nickname Potato Mountain and commands magnificent panoramic views.

Alagalla is located in kandy... Beautiful mountain. And not much hard to climb... But careful your steps. Nice place to Night camping... And get enough water.... You can't get water on top of the mountain,. So be clear... And take the things you need... Alagalla mountains can be reached by taking either the Colombo-Kandy line to Ihalakotte railway station, or by taking the Kandy-Poththapitiya bus from Pilimathalawa to Poththapitya junction... But if you can use your own vehicle is... Easy way... To reach... Especially motor bikes.. And choose the correct route 1st...because we choose hard road... We don't know that time.... So... Be Clear of it 1st.. Then. Park your vehicles... Down.... After you can Hike........

Alagalla Mountain Range is situated at the boundaries of the Central and Sabaragamuwa Provinces in Sri Lanka. Along with the surrounding Bathalegala (බතලේගල) also known as Bible Rock, Uthuwankanda (උතුවන්කන්ද), Devanagala (දෙවනගල), Ambuluwawa (අම්බුළුවාව), Knuckles Mountain Range and Hanthana (හන්තාන) Mountain Range. You have two options for the climb down.You can easily take the train and get down at the Ihala Kotte train station and start the hike, and you can also find the earliest bus to Poththapitiya -you may get it at the Good Shed bus stand ,and start the climb as early as possible. I recommend starting the climb as early in the morning as possible. Because a strong sun shines on the top of the mountain at noon. The beginning is easy to navigate, but in the end you have to go with the help of a rope. Therefore be careful.Don't forget take enough water. There are no waterpath at the mountain.You will finally be able to see a very beautiful 360 view. This is one of the most beautiful mountain in Sri Lanka. Take only memories, Leave only footprints.
