"Fourteen leagues from Mexico, in the town of Amecameca, an image of Jesus Christ is venerated with the name of the Lord of the Sacred Mount, which represents him in the tomb. The image has existed in that place since the year 1527. Its conservation It can be called a true miracle, since the place it is in is so humid that the Cambray sheets with which it is covered, change every six months, because they rot until they fall into pieces, only the body and face of the Lord have not suffered and they remain the same as now for three hundred years, with no other difference than the face being very black, as happens in all ancient images, due to the smoke from the much wax and incense that have mistreated it in the many years that it was discovered. The temple of the Lord is a very precious chapel, rich, showy and majestically adorned; making its grandeur stand out more, thus the beautiful altar on which the venerable effigy is placed. The altar is made of black marble, for the front facing the temple, and for the others, yellow; the urn or niche of white marble, carved in columns and covered with crystals, which show the Lord everywhere, and has been the work of the Tangassi Brothers. " Our saint of every day. A pilgrimage. March 1852. Fragments of José Mariano Dávila y Arrillaga.
