Went diving on the Southern Sport live aboard boat to Socorro. This was a fantastic trip for the price! All the crew (captain, skiff drivers, dive masters, service staff) worked very diligently and had great communication throughout the whole trip. They came up with a plan for the dive sites for us to get the most out of the diving possible. The boat was older, but is still very comfortable.

The diving tour was awesome. Cantamar is a big hotel and diving club compared to the other local diving shops. So we took a fairly large boat even for a handful of guests on board. The experience was awesome and the price was reasonable.

The whale shark tour was great. We had a very helpful guide (from dany tours), who assisted us when snorkeling with these huge animals. We also got the right advise to do the tour one day earlier, because wheather changed next day. It was a wonderful experience.

Great service and up front prices. The guides and captain made sure everyone had fun and got the full experience. Will be booking our second tour with them after a great first trip!

🤬🤬Their email responses were great and we booked. When we showed up in the office we were the only ones coming in. There was an old man and I had to ask to be tended to. He was extremely unfriendly and had the personality of a rattlesnake. I had already paid our deposit for our small group of 4 and had to pay the balance. I took out my credit card while looking at their credit card machine and they refused to take it. They just said they only accept cash. When I said what about that credit card machine right in front of me they simply said they only accept cash, and not friendly at all. So as all of the prices are clearly listed on their walls shows prices in USD and Pesos. I take out USD to pay what it shows and they now say that the rate is 18.50 and showed me on the screen. Then he checked again, the same screen and showed 17.50. I made reference to the PUBLISHED rate in their own shop in USD and they said the the rate varies (which of course it does); A lot on a Sunday from what I can see as each time they clicked a button their reservation page showed a different rate. So of course they would not accept their own published rate in USD. That is actually illegal in Mexico to publish a rate and not honor it. 🤬 Then the owner arrived during this conversation and made clear he was the owner and said if I didn't like it we can leave. Nothing like a nice and warm welcome from the owner! 🤬 We had a schedule and we were on time and he brought the other two guests 20 + minutes late, so we off to a great start. 🤬 We walked the block or two to the dock and got to a decent panga. The captain was very friendly and could definitely handle the vessel. e was not overly knowledgeable about the areas. We made it out to Mogote (the point of the beach across the bay) and went up to the beach where we had to wait 1 plus hour for the guide to meet us. This was the guide that we paid for? Apparently he was a guide from a different company as we finally had to gone out to meet him way farther out after waiting for more than an hour, nearly another hour into our trip 2-3 hour trip. There were no drinks snacks or anything on board. We were thirsty the whole way which was supposed to be included. I will say that the tour guide, although not and official guide was very nice and seemed knowledgeable;he just never offered any knowledge without us asking for it. The only info we got out of him were questions that we asked. It never really felt like a tour as we were not explained about any of the surrounding areas, nothing about the whale sharks, where they come from, where they go etc. All we heard was instructions on how to swim with them which included a warning of a slap on the hands if we were to touch the whale sharks plus the remaining instructions. Again the staff on the boat (captain and guide) were nice but just never felt like a tour. Also I requested a factura (which is an official receipt) and we are now going on a week and still not received one. They are obviously not above board and are avoiding taxes. The office people and owner seemed like real shysters. No photos or video services offered either. We did like swimming with the whale shark; it was a great experience but our 2-3 hour tour was 6, did not include any beverages or snacks (nor warning and we would have brought our own) and would have liked a tour and more professional experience. there are other out there and cannot recommend Cantamar for anything.
