This is one of the oldest historical monuments in the city. It goes a little unnoticed between the street stalls and shops that have recently been installed on the esplanade in front of the building that today constitutes the University Cultural Center. The plaque on its facade has the legend of being called a historical, geographical and meteorological geographical monument; on one of its sides another plaque states that it was built in 1910 to commemorate the first centenary of the Independence of Mexico. In it you can read the following emblem: "Eternal Tribute to the Heroes of Our Independence! In the First Centenary of the Great Emancipation Movement that began in Dolores the Benemérito Hidalgo. The Government of Nuevo León erected this monument at the initiative of La Junta Arqueofila of the State, 1910. " There are no historical references that describe its origins, it is only known that it is made with Durango stone and that it is crowned with a white marble sphere. With an arrow that crosses it pointing towards the astronomical pole that is the direction of the meridian that passes through Monterrey.
