Monte Alban: just outside Oaxaca City, on a low peak, spectacularly sited, great views, one of the greatest mesoamerican ruins. Zapotec ceremonial center abandoned 1000 years ago. None of the onsite vendors that obscure Chichen Itza; do not miss this remarkable place. The vast Plaza Central can be explored and also viewed from adjoining pyramid/platforms.
