Europcar Renta de Autos Mérida Aeropuerto

We made a reservation on internet and via Booking, we called europcar and they assured us that it was legal. When we arrived in Merida, we prepaid for the car, but they tried to rip us off : making us pay extra fee and an insurance which was not the one we paid for reservation. It was like 1200 us dollar deposit. We said it's not what we agreed for, and they refused to do anything. We asked for a cancellation, but they don't want to give us our money back, which is illegal. It's a total scam. We went to Leon Rental, an agency run by local people : they were very friendly and gave us an amazing deal.

It is a complete scam. They offer low rates on internet and then rip you off once you get to the office. My rental experience at keddy by Europcar was HORRIBLE. They pushed me to buy insurance coverage and when i showed them proof of being covered by my credit card. They added an $8 VLC charge per day and told me it is the local charges. I showed them my booking that already covers local taxes, and airport charges. After I agreed to pay that which increased my total from $53 to almost $200 they wanted to put a hold of $12500 on my credit card! What a terrible company. I chose to walk away. Minimum I could rate was a 1 star else i would have given a minus 5.

I was essentially scammed. When I arrived for my car rental, I was told I had to pay for insurance 10x higher than what Booking.com listed. I left the rental agency & spent the next 2 hours attempting to contact customer support to request a refund, which was the most miserable customer service experience I’ve ever had. They, of course, refused to refund me

Polite scam artists. Triple charge when you pick up your car from listing price, $600 fee when the gas was one notch below 3/4 of a tank (it was 3/4 before they turned the car off and then back on). Fine car but sneaky charges to get as much money out of you anyway they can.

DO NOT HIRE YOUR CAR FROM THEM. Classic bait and switch, but on top of that, dishonest staff who took advantage of our circumstances - it was 2am, we had a baby with us and we were tired of arguing and had no other options. We transacted with José, who repeatedly insisted that all the services that were in fact OPTIONAL were OBLIGATORY and so we ended up paying 3x more what we would have paid with another honest car rental company. When we realized what had happened and went back to them the next day, they said we had agreed to include all the services and that we had signed the contract so there was nothing they could do. Straight up lied to our faces. This seems be a trend (read past reviews), so avoid them at all costs.
