America Car Rental

Nothing worse than arriving with a reservation only to be told they won't have the car you reserved for a day or 2. In what world in a foreign country is anyone going to be ok with this!! AVOID IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GET STUCK WITH NO CAR

Our car died at our first stop - when we called the operator was obnoxious and disrespectful, irritated. He said we would have to wait until the next morning. A kind man helped us get it started and we were able to get to our hotel, where the car promptly died again. They exchanged our car the next day. The following day one of the tires busted; strangely because we had not even gone over any ditches or bumps. I thought maybe we had gone over a nail or something. We called them to come to our rescue (we had contracted roadside service) and they changed the tire. Everything seemed to be alright, until we delivered the car and they insisted we had been “negligent” and had damaged the rim!!! They wanted over MXN17,000.00 pesos for “the damage”. A horrible exchange ensued, and we finally settled by calling to get an estimate for the rim and paying only that; I was about to threaten hunger strike if they didn’t accept !!! A terrible ending to a beautiful trip - never again American Car Rental .......

Horrific company. Avoid at all costs. They ripped me off $250 and refused to give me the car or refund me and tried to charge me $13,500 deposit to rent the car (yes $13,500!!!). I had correct insurance also. They are scammers and should not be allowed to trade. They were abusive and rude and left me stranded at Merida airport. W-Cars just around the corner saved me and got a decent car with a fair price (and only $500 deposit) with them instead.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I booked under NU Car Rental, which is apparently a front for America Car Rental - because they have such an awful reputation under that company name they created this "NU car" business. Arrived and was told I had to pay $200 more than my appointment because my international insurance CC plan wasn't sufficient. Also I made a reservation months ahead and they charged my card for the full amount at that date. I had to jump through hoops to have the money returned to me - the company initially offered a "credit."
