I would highly recommend visiting this site while it flies below the radar of most tourists. You will share the site with only few travellers, making for a very intimate and different experience. Transportation is obviously an issue but the entry fee is low.

impressive ruins. you can actually climb onto the pyramids. During workdays there are very few people. Entrance fee is 50p. The signs don't explain much about Mayan culture though.

Great place. All the ruins are in one main area. Many you are allowed to climb on. It was overcast and sprinkled a bit of rain, but that was perfect weather for a day seeing ruin sites.

🔘Mayapan🔘 ⚫It is a Pre-Columbian Maya site, 100 km west of Chichen Itza; in the state of Yucatán, Mexico. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⚫Mayapan is 4.2 square kilometers (about 1.6 square miles) and has over 4000 structures. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⚫Mayapan was the political and cultural capital of the Maya in the Yucatán Peninsula during the Late Post-Classic period from the 1220s until the 1440s. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⚫Estimates of the total city population are 15,000–17,000 people. ⚫The ceremonial center has a tightly packed cluster of temples, colonnaded halls, oratories, shrines, sanctuaries, altars, and platforms. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⚫However, the city's buildings in general are not constructed as well as those in other Mayan cities. ⚫For example, most or all of the vaulted roofs in Mayapan have collapsed, while many of the better-built buildings at Chichen Itza remain intact.

Beautiful! One suggestion will be to read about this arqueologic site before your arrival. Lots of interesting facts.
