Good place to visit and learn more about pre-Hispanic culture in its popolocas settlements dare to know more about this town ... I leave a curious fact The site served as the head of one of the most important lords. It was occupied since 2013 B.C. before Christ until the Spanish conquest. Shirley Gorennstein defined three phases based on his analysis of the architecture and ceramics of the area: (1350 - 1450 BC) Huichi face, (1300 1350), and Xaqua toyna face (1450 BC). The core of the site is a walled fortress, which is located at the confluence of two deep ravines (140 meters high); one of them is the river Xamilpa or Lazamilpan, giving the place a strategic importance: this river is a tributary of the Atoyac river. The area consists of a wall that surrounds the exposed archaeological structures of plazas and ceremonial mounds, suggesting that it was a military fortress.

I know the archaeological zone to perfection, it is one of the largest and most interesting for its history

I was about to put 4 stars to this place, but more than the place itself, it is the INAH, because it is totally neglected. It was a fortress, and in its last stage was controlled by the Mexican army, to regulate the passage through that area. There is only one access point, and the last section is eight kilometers of dirt road, in some parts very rough. With these conditions, it is very difficult to visit with a small car, and with rain it must become practically impossible, except for 4x4 vehicles. Outside of the above, it is quite an adventure to visit, the views from the mountain are spectacular, and the silence is total. There is surveillance on the site, on the way there. The heat is brutal, should be visited with sunscreen, hat or cap, loose clothing and hiking shoes. It is also highly recommended to bring insect repellent.
