Unusual, beautiful statue - wooden 6 meter high dog with sensors, generating steam.
Mannes is a big wooden sculpture of a dog which was placed on the Stationsplein of Assen after the big reconstruction of the railway station area. He is located on the crossing of two light related works of art - lines of light following passing cars in the tunnel, and a cloud of lights around him which react to the footsteps of the passers by. He is also able to react himself to crowds of bystanders and in particular to children's voices. Mannes was designed by NIO architects and the artist Q.S. Serafijn from Rotterdam.
Beautiful giant dog!
Even in the rain he was faithfully waiting for us when we got off the train at Assen station. Even in the heat of the day, he watched us in the burning sun
Mannes the dog has always been a thorn in my side. Firstly, it is far too large and therefore a gigantic horizon polluter. In addition, I do not really like the color. Finally, in my opinion, a dog has nothing to do with Assen.
