International School Twente

Our two children have been attending the International School of Twente since the beginning of this school year and it is obvious that the school has been going through a period of constant positive changes which obviously lead to a more stable and promising learning environment. Since the very first day our children have experienced the genuine interest of both the teachers and the rest of the staff who have contributed considerably to making their integration in the new school community,as smooth as possible.They have always been willing to talk with us over our concerns and cooperate with us for the best possible approach to any issue that has come up. Although the approach of more independent learning and self study can,at times,be quite challenging to students with a different educational background, it can, no doubt, have important benefits in the long run,fostering a strong sense of confidence to learners of all ages. We do feel that ,as is the case in most educational institutions,there is still room for improvement;yet we are absolutely convinced that the new Principal in cooperation with the highly qualified teachers and the rest of the staff have the potential to lead the school to even higher levels of quality education and academic achievements.

We are very happy with the school. Our daughter joined IST Primary 3 years ago, and we are all very content; our daughter thrives, class size is small, the teachers are excellent and caring, and the school nurtures a lively community which we love being a part of. In fact, the school was the decisive factor for us to come to Enschede, and did not disappoint! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The school is very unorganized. The amount of hours which were teached were not acceptable. Schedule was filled up with volunteer teaching hours. Some teachers did not speak fluent English. The international school is only attached to a Dutch school which means the school is not independent. I hope that helps.

The chemistry teacher is really cool, he makes chemistry likable otherwise i would not have taken this subject.

In the second half of last year the school has undergone a transition phase, due to relevant changes at management level. This has resulted in some disruption in terms of general organization and timetable. What has been mentioned in the below review (which has been written in March by a parent who has left the school at the beginning of November and hasn’t therefore been here to witness the changes) applies to the beginning of the school year 2018/2019. Since then, thanks to the planning and competence of the new school Director, things have improved greatly. The amount of hours taught meet the Dutch legal standards, and while like many International schools we do have volunteers helping out, the subjects are being taught by qualified teachers, both Dutch and from a varied international background. IST is a Dutch International School, which means that there is cooperation between the school and the Dutch government, and it also means that the school fees are kept considerably lower than independent International schools. Having been a parent with children in IST for a number of years now, I can say that while not perfect it has a lot going for it, and that I have never felt so confident in its future as I do now. If you are thinking of moving to the Twente region it is definitely worth dropping in to have a look for yourself. Hope this helps.
