Last Friday we went to the Czech Embassy in The Hague to handle the registration of our marriage in the Czech Republic. What we found there at the counter spontaneously made my hair stand upright with annoyance. A terribly customer-unfriendly lady at the desk didn't want to talk to me because I was Dutch and when my wife asked a question she didn't listen but talked right through it or just walked away! To complete three forms and to ask the necessary questions, we spent 2.5 hours and in the end the consul (incidentally a very friendly lady) had to get involved in handling the case. I found it very ironic that there were posters 'Czech Republic, your new friend' at the counter. I now also understand why there was 5 cm bulletproof glass between us and the lady. I wonder if this is normal for an embassy to only offer its services to their own nationals. Is it not true that an embassy is the face of that country 'abroad'? I am satisfied with the embassy and the handling of certain things. They always came up to meet, smile and friendly professional conduct. (The only lack of pin payment at the embassy, ​​always the money itself. And the toilet is also a shortage.) The ambassador is a very nice person, always advised us properly in everything. Thank you.
