Super beautiful and very well maintained cemetery
This cemetery, surrounded by trees and greenery, was designed by the then municipal architect in a symmetrical setup on an elongated ground and was put into use in 1899. It was then considerably enlarged, as a result of which the path plan of the first instance was somewhat disrupted. The auditorium has a characteristic bell tower that survived a fire and a rebuilding. The transition in grave monument culture from freestone to granite can be clearly seen in this cemetery in time. The monuments are generally quite austere. The cemetery has several monuments that are important for the history of the region from a socio-cultural or funerary point of view. Examples of this are the old entrance gate and the war grave of the local resistance fighter Jan de Rooij who declared himself to save others' lives. The most recent adaptation of the cemetery dates from 2014, with an extensive garden at the rear, including an urn garden.
