A wooden church (from 1875) in Zachorzów dedicated to. st. Michael the Archangel. Originally it was the court chapel of St. Izydora, built in 1785 by the local landowner - Michał Domaniewski. In 1619, Pope Paul V proclaimed Isidore blessed, and three years later Pope Gregory XV included him among the saints of the Church. Saint Isidore "Oracz" is the patron saint of farmers, also the patron saint of Madrid and Zaragoza, in Poland - the patron saint of the diocese of Kielce. The faithful pray to him for a good harvest. It protects against drought and excessive rain. Was the village founded in the 17th century? Late baroque altars from the end of the 18th century still exist today. There is no trace of the manor house. And this is an interesting matter because Zachorzów stands out from the villages of Podopoczyński - it is clean, you can see thrift and culture of life here, aesthetics reigns everywhere, not even a single garbage is noticed ... cultivated, no fallow trees are visible. Everything seems to indicate that the inhabitants of this village had some other traditions or even different genes. It is difficult to find any information about the origins of this village, but I have a feeling that something unusual must have happened here, maybe in the 16th century .. or maybe even in the 13th century. Various waves of agricultural settlers from different countries (lands) much more civilized than Poland (Czech Republic, Silesia, Hungary, Bavaria) reached Poland, and such decent habits have been preserved for centuries, and it can be seen in various regions of Poland, e.g. among the Pogórzans . The church in Zachorzów vividly resembles wooden old churches in Pogórze, e.g. the famous one in Binarowa (Bithner Havn) near Biecz. Even the layout of the fields, that is the range of the borders of Zachorzów (plus Kolonia plus Józefów), makes a strange impression - these estates are spread over a huge circle with a diameter of almost 4 km. Just look at the map to see it easily. It does not look like a parceled out estate like in other villages, but a deliberately organized colony. But that's just my guess, maybe I can find something about it. Perhaps it will be possible to establish who the original "Zachary" was, when and where he came from. Looking at this village, one has an irresistible impression that a person has moved to the Opole region or to Greater Poland. Coming back to the beautiful church .... After World War II, material was collected for the church, but the then authorities refused a building permit, so the material was used for the fence of the parish cemetery. In 1986, the former chapel was restored and expanded (the old church is inside the new one, and the effect is wonderful), thanks to which it serves as a parish church for three villages. Only Zachorzów, Zachorzów Kolonia and Józefów belong to the parish. St. Michael the Archangel in Zachorzów is currently the only preserved building of wooden architecture from the 18th century in the Opoczno district. The renovation was carried out in 2010, and the effects of this work are amazing. Indulgences are held on May 10 - St. Isidore and on September 29 - St. Michael. According to Christian tradition, when Satan rebelled against God and incited 1/3 of the angels to rebel, Michael was to be the first to speak against him with the cry: Who like God! The cult of St. Michael the Archangel is widespread especially in eastern Poland and throughout the Russian Empire. Could the founder be some Zakharov / Sakharov from Podolia? But no, the most popular surnames in Zachorzów point to a connection with the vicinity of Jędrzejów beyond Kielce .. So I continue to investigate the matter.

A great historic church. It is a pity that the priest forgot about the shining of vehicles, which event in the Catholic Church is associated with Saint. Krzysztof is the patron of drivers and has been cultivated since a long time on July 25 (or the nearest Sunday) and then lights up vehicles and motorcycles after Masses. I know that there are other terms, but in the villages it is a cultivated tradition
