I was unfortunately bitten by a tick on the weekend, i managed to remove the tick but in the days following its removal from my thigh, the swelling and pain around the bite got worse so i decided to visit the 24h infectious diseases department.
As a fellow medical professional (Dentist) I have an idea about the symptoms and treatment required for the potential consequences of a tick bite (Lyme disease).
I arrived at the department and rang the bell, and i was greeted by a grumpy nurse who had no patient empathy, no patient communication skills and in general was quite rude.
The first she told me was and i quote "so you decided that it started to hurt at night and decided to visit the hospital at night" (I was there at 23:30) implying that I had no right coming to see a doctor so late even though the department is open 24h.
I explained to the lady that i work as a Dental surgeon (for the Polish NHS) and i work long hours and my symptoms only got worse that evening and a fellow doctor recommended that i go visit the infectious diseases department. I said this in a tone to put her in her place, she didnt comment after this.
I was seen by a doctor quickly , he had a look at the bite on my thigh but did not examine it with his hands, and didnt take a full medical history or ask me about any symptoms I was sufferring from. He left the room and returned with a prescription for an antibiotic, an antihistamine and a topical ointment. Additionally i was given a referral to see a dermatologist/specialist to continue treatment and to carry out blood tests after I finish the antibiotics.
Overall I was not at all happy with the way I as a patient was treated, especially by the nurse who should show me more respect as she knew i was a doctor.
This is unfortunately a problem encountered in the vast majority of NFZ hospitals and clinics in Poland , where the staff simply have zero interpersonal skills.
This stems from the lack of adequate training, and possibly the poor wages and the long hours staff have to work. I was also slightly dissapointed with the doctor, that he didnt carry out his duties with 100% commitment. I would never treat a patient before carrying out a full medical examination including history taking.
He did end up treating me correctly (correct prescription) and referring me to the correct department , but the lack of a proper examination and medical questioning is worrying.
When working in the field of medicine, one should show passion and most of all empathy towards their patients. I felt that the staff in the hospital simply did not care and were more concered about the fact i disturbed their nap during their night shift. Medicine is a vocation and night shifts are part of the job. If they dont like it they should of chosen a different career path.
Szpital w miarę nowoczesny. Personel bardzo miły i życzliwy, lecz tylko niewielka grupa z grona lekarzy słucha pacjenta i chce im pomóc. Co do wyżywienia nie mam zastrzeżeń.
We, the sick, went to this hospital and here the ANGELS work alone! They save, take care of. I bow to ALL PERSONNEL for their commitment, persistence, great heart ♥ for patients. THANK YOU. WE THANK THE PATIENTS VERY MUCH, building F, room 1. A very grateful patient, Danuta Rosińska.

The tragedy of lying with a 3-year-old child suffering from salmonella after a week of fever 39.7, 3 different antibiotics, I could not get an ultrasound where the child screamed in pain and grabbed his appendix. P.dr stated by examining her abdomen with her hand that it was water from salmonella and ultrasound was unnecessary. When there was still no improvement, she contacted a surgeon from another hospital by phone and the child was immediately transported to an ambulance where the patient was immediately diagnosed with EIT! SOME MORE IN THE BIEGANSKI HOSPITAL AND I WOULD NOT HAVE A CHILD !!
3 hours of waiting on the line to connect, registration, I was 7 in the queue and I gave up a disaster😡
