Basilica of the Discovery of the Holy Cross and the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is assumed, as shown by the archaeological works carried out in 2009-2012, that the original place of the basilica was probably a wooden church (former parish church of Stara Częstochowa) with a cemetery around it. The main door from 1858 (to the right from the vestibule) leads to the basilica, decorated on one side with reliefs of angels and St. Paul the First Hermit and St. Antoni Abbot.

The main altar and presbytery in the basilica of the Discovery of the Holy Cross and the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary: The main altar is decorated with varied marbling [covering the wall or column with gypsum spread with a marble powder imitating marble] and rich gilding. Altar consecrated in 1734. It was made in the years 1725-1728 (Italian design, German design). Founder - Stanisław Chomętowski of the Lis coat of arms, Masovian voivode, hetman, diplomat (cost - 70,000 Polish zlotys) The altar was made of stone and stucco [plaster + lime + marble dust, polished with wax]. The lower part (in the substructure) is a plinth with a mensa (altar table) in the form of a sarcophagus. The main, central part of the altar is a tabernacle with a canopy in the form of a golden tent, with figures of two kneeling angels (made in the 1920s). In the central part of the "setting" there are three pairs of columns supporting a highly complex entablature, between the columns there is a group of angels carrying Mary. At the end - the Holy Trinity getting ready for the coronation of the Mother of God. At the base of the columns - figures of the four Evangelists. On the sides there are also figures of St. Peter (with keys) and St. Paul the Apostle (with a sword). To the right of the altar - a stylized neo-baroque bishop's throne made in 1866. In the north wall there are two decorative portals with an entrance to the vestry of the sacristy, with a wooden door (around 1860) decorated with a bas-relief depicting the handing over of the miraculous Picture to the Pauline Fathers by Prince Władysław Opolczyk. and the second portal - to the sacristy itself (from the 17th - 18th centuries). In front of the altar, on the floor, there is a tombstone closing the entrance to the underground crypts. On the walls of the presbytery, at the top, there are two richly decorated musical balconies (galleries, 18th century)

First place, both in terms of architecture, religion and spirituality. 😍 ♥ You just have to be here. A must-see for Catholics. A place of numerous pilgrimages. It is worth treating this place (regardless of faith) with respect and the utmost seriousness.
