Castle in Biskupin - an archaeological site in the Gniezno Lakeland in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. The discovery of the settlement was one of the most important events in the history of Polish and European archeology. In 1933, as a result of drainage and irrigation works, the water level in Biskupin Lake fell so much that the remains of the fortifications of the ancient settlement emerged above the water level. Local peasants found historic items, unaware of their archaeological value. It was only the children attending the local school that informed about the strange finds of the teacher Walenty Szwajcer, who publicized the matter [3] [4]. About the discovery of wooden logs protruding from the water, he informed prof. Józef Kostrzewski from Poznań. Excavation research was initiated in 1934 and continued until the outbreak of World War II. At first, the expedition had modest resources. On June 22, 1934, a six-person team of archaeologists began work equipped with 360 zlotys with twenty unemployed men from Gąsawa and Biskupin to help. Until 1939, the work was carried out for several months a year. The excavation expedition of the University of Poznań was led by prof. Józef Kostrzewski and dr Zdzisław Rajewski

Everything about this place has already been written and taught at school - but seeing it by sight will not replace any books and the Internet - it is worth a hundred times worth touching and seeing it yourself. Interesting ethnographic souvenirs can be purchased on the premises

A place known from school textbooks. Definitely worth seeing in the area. There are eateries, souvenir stands and a farm with animals, as well as interactive exhibitions.

It is an interesting place, but the order is not well-ordered.
