Beautiful church, relics of St Catherine's are inside

In the Old Town of Zamość, with the main entrance from the south, there is the Baroque Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria. The temple was built in the 17th century, but when Zamość was taken over by the Russians, the church was rebuilt and architecturally changed. Thanks to the efforts of the inhabitants, in the years 1925-26 the reconstruction of the church began, which became the rector's church. In the main altar there is a painting of the patron saint of St. Catherine of Alexandria from the 18th century. Two side altars of the Mother of God and the Lord Jesus. In 1938, the relics of St. Andrzej Bobola. An interesting fact is that in 1939 in the crypt under the church there was a hidden chest with the painting 'Homage to Prussia' by Jan Matejko. Since 2019, the rector of the church is Fr. Marek Żur.

A beautiful old church. One of two in the center of Zamość, worth seeing. The latter is, of course, the cathedral, with interior fittings mainly from the first half of the 20th century. In the main field of the great altar there is a painting of the patron of the church (second half of the 18th century) in a gilded baroque frame, and on the veil the image of the Divine Mercy (Łucja Bałzukiewicz, 1953). In the niche under the choir there is a figure of Our Lady of Fatima (Jan Pastuszek) - a votive offering for the twenty years of the pontificate of Pope John Paul II. In the balustrade-kneeler of the rainbow arch (on the right side), the relics of St. Catherine of Alexandria, virgin and martyr. The relics of St. Philomena, virgin and martyr, St. Teresa of the Child Jesus, St. Padre Pio, St. Faustina Kowalska. Inside the church, epitaphs and plaques devoted to people and events related to the history of St. Catherine, including: an epitaph in honor of professors and students of Zamość schools murdered during World War II; a plaque funded to commemorate the confirmation of Zamość scouts on May 16, 1947 by Bishop Stefan Wyszyński;
