The former Uniate church is this inconspicuous, small building is a real pearl of Polish Orthodoxy and also the oldest religious building of this type in Poland. It probably houses the walls of a Catholic church from the end of the 14th century. It was created thanks to magnates from the Górków family in Greater Poland. The main body of the church dates from around 1560-1570. After the Brest Union was established in 1596, the church was taken over by the Uniates. It remained in their hands until 1867, when it was taken over by the Orthodox. The building was renovated and rebuilt in the 17th and 19th centuries. It has been closed since the First World War. In the post-war years it served as a warehouse, later it became unused and unsecured. In March 2008, it was restored from the funds allocated from the European Union. The renovation was completed in 2010. It is now a subsidiary church of the Dormition of the Holy Mother of God belonging to the orthodox parish of St. George in Biłgoraj. The old furnishings have preserved solid iron doors dated 1560, which have been in Zamość since 1984 and unique 16th and 17th century polychromes. The Szczebrzeszyńska church has already been opened to tourists, the key is in the community center and the visit is free.
