A charming little church, closed outside masses.

It requires a lot of care outside and even more inside

It is assumed that the church was built in the fifteenth century, although suggesting the call of the church researchers even dated it to the twelfth century. The first mention of the church comes from 1520 in connection with the foundation at the temple of the so-called rural presbytery. The church was also called "on Kierchów", which may indicate the existence of a German colony, later Polonized. The appearance of this church is shown by an engraving of Georg Braun from the beginning of the 17th century The church was oriented, wooden, with a gable roof. The roof is topped with a turret ended with a pointed helmet with a cross. The original church burned down in 1635. It was rebuilt around 1642 in the late Renaissance style by Andrzej Kazimierz Cebrowski (1580-1658), a pharmacist and Primate's doctor, chronicler of the city. It is a brick church preserved to this day, because the wooden nave built in 1712 has not survived. In 1812, the French placed a food warehouse in the church, and military warehouses were established in the period after the November Uprising. The church was destroyed in 1914, its further destruction took place in September 1939. The church was rebuilt again in the 1960s. Currently, the temple, one of the most important monuments of Łowicz, plays the role of an academic church. It is also a tourist attraction of the city. It is worth knowing that in 1780, the first "in the field" cemetery in the Commonwealth was established by the church, outside the city limits. Until now, the faithful were buried in churches and church cemeteries in the city. The cemetery existed until 1820.
