The Volunteer Fire Guard Society in Łowicz was established in 1879 as one of the first in the Kingdom of Poland. Among the initiators of her calling we can find the most eminent figures of the city: Konopacki, Tarczyński, Oczykowski, and Xiężopolski. Hipolit Wyszyński was elected the first head. In addition to the function of ensuring safety against fire, the guard also had another important role, it was a thriving cultural institution with a theater and brass band. During the partitions, the Fire Guard was the only legally operating Polish organization in the city. The first headquarters of the guard was located in the stables at Konski Square. In 1900, the headquarters was moved to Podrzeczna Street, a training tower - the building was built in Glinki. In 1936-37 a new watchtower was built, partly destroyed in 1944. After the war in 1949, the fire station was rebuilt in its present form.
