The neo-Romanesque church was built on the initiative of the evangelical pastor Karol Appenroth. Earlier, with the consent of the Opole Diocese, evangelicals celebrated their services in the Catholic church of St. Valentine. In 1846, the great fire that struck the city also largely damaged the Catholic church. With the permission of Prince Wilhelm of Braunschweig (the then owner of Dobrodziń), evangelical services were held in the castle's rooms. The church was built with the donation of the prince and parishioners' contributions. The temple was dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene. After World War II, the church was taken over by Catholics, its consecration was made by Archbishop Bolesław Kominek of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. During the replacement of the church roof and tower cover, many nineteenth-century coins and a short history of the temple were found in the gilded sphere. The height of the church tower including the cross is 27 meters.
