The history of the parish dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Żyglin dates back to the Middle Ages and is intertwined with the history of three churches. The first Gothic one, noted in parish records, was built of wood. The first cemetery, 60 steps wide, was established around the church in accordance with the decision of the Roman Council of 1059. For over 300 years, the church served the parish in which the population was increasing. Another Żyglin church was built in the Baroque era, in place of the first one, digested by fire in 1703. But in the next century the church became too small for the populous parish and for this reason in 1801 count Erdmann Gustaw Henckel von Donnersmarck submitted an application for the construction of a new temple. The count forwarded the application to the superior instance in Wrocław. The matter was at the discretion of the Royal Prussian War-Dominion Camera, because the Żyglin church remained under the patronage of the king. In April 1838, the ministry in Berlin issued a binding consent. The construction of the temple was completed in 1842, and in the years 1873-1874 a tower was added to it.
