The monastery was founded in the 12th century (!) And settled by the Cistercians from Denmark (Esrum, Sjaelland). He was given the right to settle colonists on his land at his own discretion. It was an important center for the Christianization and economic reconstruction of the Duchy of Pomerania. A great place for lovers of regional history. The eastern part of the basilica is used as a church. The rest of the western part, with the famous rosette, and the adjacent buildings are deteriorating, unable to wait for proper protection and restoration. A unique object of cultural and historical heritage.

Cistercians. 2 monks started. After 300 years, 3 cities, 70 villages, Miedwie, whitefish exported to royal courts, several hundred workers in Kołbacz itself. In addition, a list of megalithic objects, a map of the Płonia current in Miedwi, etc.

One of the oldest brick churches in Poland. Prayer in a place like this is like a time shift.

Nice old church, worth seeing. It is a pity that the abbey buildings are in ruins because it would be a nice place. The church is currently under renovation, which made it difficult for me to get inside.

The oldest Cistercian abbey in Kołbacz in Pomerania was founded by the castellan of Warcisław in Szczecin in 1173. In 1174, the first Cistercians from Esrom arrived in Denmark. The construction of the monastery began in 1210, and lasted until 1347. In the fourteenth century, the Abbey in Kołbacz was a thriving center of religious and economic life, radiating throughout Pomerania. Today, the complex lies on the Cistercian Route and the Romanesque Route. The most valuable elements of the temple architecture are: a rosette in the finial of the western façade and decorative cornices on the northern and western wall. From the once rich interior decoration of the temple remained stone epitaphs and a baroque pulpit. In the 18th century, the nave was used as a granary. Today, here in the aisle, the Cistercian Gallery was created with interesting exhibitions depicting the life and traditions of the former inhabitants of this region. To the south of the church there was a complex of monastery buildings. Only a part of the western wing remained - so-called Dom Konwersów and Dom Opata from 1254, rebuilt many times. The gothic barn from the 14th century remained from the farm buildings - the only building of this type in Pomerania. The Cistercians lived according to the rules of Saint. Benedict, expressed with the motto: ora et labora (pray and work). They kept on working their own hands - they cultivated cereals, raised animals, founded mills, ran a brewery, wine press, dairy, bakery and craft workshops. The Cistercians developed a pattern of a harmonious combination of prayer life and commitment to physical work.
