An example of Byzantine architecture. The church is being renovated during my stay in Włodawa, but from the outside it looks extremely dignified. It is worth coming here.

Symbol of three Włodawa cultures. The church that is currently under renovation looks worthy. I can't wait to finish the renovation. Only then will it be a real showcase of the city and a must-see when visiting Włodawa. Now a little overlooked by tourists.

The renovation has been going on for over a dozen years and there is no indication that it should end

The Orthodox Church of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, at ul. Kościelna 11a in Włodawa. The original records of the existence of the church in Włodawa come from the second half of the 16th century. It is also known that the second wooden church burnt down in 1790. The present church, funded by Count August Zamoyski, was built in the years 1840-1842 as a Greek Catholic. It is worth knowing that in June 1742, the then owner, Antoni Pociej, revised the grants for the Uniate church in Włodawa. As a result of this document, a separate church juridic was established, which actually functioned previously. It was the third organism, apart from the Pauline juridic and the Jewish community, not subject to the legal regulations of the municipal community. After the dissolution of the Union in 1875, the church was taken over by the Orthodox, transforming the temple in 1882, giving it a Ruthenian character while maintaining the Byzantine-Classicist style. Inside, there is a classicist polychrome from around 1882, probably funded by the land guard from Włodawa, Haponiuk. Iconostasis from 1843 made in Warsaw by Andrzej Cieszyński, with a series of classicist pictures from the life of Mary and Christ, painted on boards, and tsarist gates made of carved wood.

Nice place. Pop very interesting and passionately tells about the church and history associated with it.
