The oldest written mention of the parish dates from 1596. The first parish temple was the church of St. Nicholas, which burned down in the 1850s. In its place a stone church of the Dormition of the Holy Mother of God was erected in 1885. At the end of the 19th century, the parish had over 3,700 believers living in 22 villages. In 1900, the parish in Szudziałów (existing until 1915) was established from the Ostrów parish. In 1903, a parish school was opened, and in 1907, the church of St. Vladimir. The activity of the parish was interrupted by the outbreak of World War I and the Orthodox population went on-going. In 1915, the deserted parish church was blown up by the Germans. After Poland regained independence, the parish was reactivated; services were held at the cemetery church. In 1929, on the initiative of Eliasz Klimowicz (founder of a new religious group), a church was erected in the nearby Old Grzybowszczyzna; During World War II, this temple was transferred by the German authorities to the Orthodox. In 1952 the parish church was rebuilt. In 2014, the parish had about 370 faithful living in Ostrów Północ and 20 surrounding villages. According to another source, in 2017 the parish had 200 people,

The church was erected in 1949-1952. The consecration of the temple was made on August 14, 1952 by the Archbishop of Bialystok and Gdańsk Tymoteusz (later metropolitan). The temple is a brick building. Inside there is a gilded iconostasis, and all interior walls decorate the polychrome. At the beginning of the 21st century, the church was thoroughly renovated.
